Introduction:

  1. What deficit in the author’s own faith did he discover in his college philosophy class when his professor challenged the “traditional view of God” (p. xv)?

Chapter 1:

  1. What perspective does Jesus offer in Mark 8:36,37? This book is geared toward skeptics as well as believers.  Would Jesus’s words matter to a skeptic?  Why or why not?
  2. How does the idea of “staying open” challenge the skeptic? Does it also challenge the believer?
  3. What do you think of the author challenging the reader to offer a prayer to God to guide him or her in this exploration?
