Years ago (c. 1983) a Mormon scholar by the name of Jim Wilson sat in my living room with four of his disciples (young Mormon missionaries). As we were engaged in theological debate, the Spirit of God came upon me and I said, in love, “Joseph Smith is a liar, you guys are deceived, and one day you will leave the Mormon church!”
You might be thinking “That was love?” Yes indeed! Love demands the truth. I’m no scholar, but I can share my faith adequately, even boldly on occasion — and with the Holy Spirit’s anointing, the words I speak can be like a hot knife in butter! Seeds were planted that day.
About two years later I was listening to The Bible Answer Man radio program. Dr. Walter Martin (1928-1989) told of a rising star in the Mormon church, a leading apologist for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, who had recently come to saving faith in Christ and had renounced his affiliation with the LDS church. He gave his name: Jim Wilson! I researched it out and discovered it was the same Jim Wilson that was lovingly yet boldly confronted in my living room!
On that day the seeds of the true gospel were planted in love — and the harvest was a soul for all eternity!
Like so many other Christians have done over the centuries, won’t you allow God to take your raw strengths and temper them for His use? It can make an eternal difference in someone’s life!
