Besides the benefit of planting seeds of God’s eternal Word, and sometimes even harvesting a soul, there is a personal benefit to sharing our faith when the opportunity presents itself. Here’s an illustration of what I mean.
Have you ever had a bathroom sink that was plugged up? You start “working the plunger” or perhaps fish around in the drain with a pair of mechanical fingers — and what comes up is disgusting: hair, rotting food mixed together with toothpaste, all of which results in sticky slime!
These things were initially good — but went bad because they weren’t serving their purpose — they just sat there.
In the same way our spiritual lives get plugged up with “stuff” that was initially good but went bad because it just sat there; truths that never translated into action in our lives. Frankly, I’m most excited and fulfilled when I’m reaching out. Didn’t Jesus say, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”?
I’m convinced that the greatest reason so many of us are spiritually dull and apathetic is that we are not sharing our faith; we keep it to ourselves and we end up spiritually constipated. We are self-absorbed; our focus is inward instead of upward and outward.
