Luke 23:34 (NLT)
Jesus said, “Father, forgive these people, because they don’t know what they are doing.” And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice.
A Theme to Remember:
Imagine: At the foot of the blood-stained cross that held the precious, dying body of the world’s Savior, crude, unfeeling soldiers callously and casually gambled for the few possessions He owned. Had they an inkling of what was really transpiring at that moment, even these rough-hewn men would have fallen to their knees and cried for mercy. Jesus, despite His misery, demonstrates His infinite love in this prayer; forgiving those who blindly ignore Him – just as so many refuse to recognize Him today.
Words to Remember:
It is curious that people who are filled with horrified indignation whenever a cat kills a sparrow can hear the story of the killing of God told Sunday after Sunday and not experience any shock at all.
