LAURIE THE POPPER

At about 8:30 p.m. I used to hear a strange sound coming out of our kitchen: a popcorn maker!

Almost every night my wife, Laurie, would pop up a bowl in preparation for a movie (she’s had several different “rituals” since then). For years I observed this ritual with mixed emotions. After years of toiling and a little relaxation, I began to see the value in what she was doing: This was Laurie’s daily diversion.

The result? Laurie is one of the most content, peaceful people I know. She is able to rest in God’s unconditional love and acceptance. I’m a convert! Now I join her every evening when the work of the day is done (of course I only last about five minutes…).

Find out what relaxes/recharges you: exercise, a sport, a hobby, a movie, etc. We need daily diversions; work will meet us in the morning — we can be ready if we relaxed sufficiently the night before!
