In Matthew 7:7-11, Jesus says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
“Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
Why would Jesus say this if it isn’t true? He wouldn’t! If you are seeking you’re going to find — it’s only a matter of God’s timing!
For instance, while stationed 12,000 miles away from home at a remote Air Force base, literally carved out of the jungle in Thailand, I was in need of some spiritual food and encouragement! I had plugged into a good Bible study with some guys, but my soul needed more: it needed some good music!
One day I went to the base chapel to pray, to seek the Lord. While there I came across a box full of these giant black CDs (record albums!). There were three contemporary Christian albums among the “old fogie” stuff. This was 1973, the tail end of the Jesus-People movement — and the early years of contemporary Christian music. Someone had “planted” these three albums in this box, no doubt praying God would somehow use them.
Those three records (which I copied onto cassettes) fed my soul from day one — they’re still good! Be open to being a receiver of God’s truth through His sowers. He has lots of ways of getting through to us!
I encourage you to be aware of your potential for sowing seeds. I never did discover who put the records there, and they’ll probably never know the impact their obedience had until they stand before the Lord Jesus one day!
