I don’t even remember their names but I do remember the faces and the kindness of godly ladies in my childhood years who taught the VBS, Good News Clubs, and Sunday School classes I attended as a child. They were unaware of the impact. Besides my grandparents, they were the only Christian influence I had growing up. My own grandmother (Thelma McCament) was a Sunday School teacher at the Foursquare Church of Santa Ana where Pastor Chuck Smith grew up (founder of Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa). She had the Smith boys in her class!
Moms, teachers, grandmothers, please know that your efforts will one day bear fruit in the young lives you have surrounding you — and the ones who you invested in at some earlier time in your life. They will not forget you — nor the selfless love you gave them. Jesus loves what you did, what you are now doing, and what you will do for these precious little ones: “One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children’” Matthew 19:13-14.
“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me” Mark 9:37.
“And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them” Mark 10:16.
