AT REST IN GOD ALONE

If ever a succinct statement was written that presents the key to every man’s heart-cry for utter, complete peace of mind and heart, it was coined by King David in his beautiful 62nd psalm! Led by the Holy Spirit, David begins Psalm 62 with these words: “My soul finds rest in God alone…”
He goes on to write about how wicked men were bent on destroying him by means of deceitful lies fueled by corrupt hearts (vss. 3-4).

Savvy to their scheming, David monitors his self-talk then, in verse 5, retorts with,“Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from Him.”

On the Calvary Chapel worship album “Shout For Joy” Gary Puckett sings a song intitled “My Soul Finds Rest” (by Dan Marks). The song is an adaption of David’s Psalm 62. You old-timers who listened to music back in the mid-to-late 1960s no doubt remember the popular group “Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.”

Long story short: Talent, fame, money, and his Buddhist religious-leanings didn’t “deliver” for Gary. In 1990 he pro- fessed faith in Christ and since that time has chosen to perform with the intent of glorifying his Lord. Though his performances always include his hit 1960s music, it’s Gary’s hope that the light and love of Jesus will shine through him.

David’s testimony, Gary’s, and countless others of both notoriety and obscurity bear an undeniable witness to the established, undeniable fact that our soul, our inmost being, can only find lasting repose in the One who created it: the Lord God Himself!
