I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVES

I know that my Redeemer lives;
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, He lives, who once was dead;
He lives, my ever living Head.

He lives to bless me with His love,
He lives to plead for me above.
He lives my hungry soul to feed,
He lives to help in time of need.

He lives triumphant from the grave,
He lives eternally to save,
He lives all glorious in the sky,
He lives exalted there on high.

He lives and grants me daily breath;
He lives, and I shall conquer death:
He lives my mansion to prepare;
He lives to bring me safely there.

He lives, all glory to His Name!
He lives, my Jesus, still the same.
Oh, the sweet joy this sentence gives,
I know that my Redeemer lives!

About the writer: Samuel Medley, a Baptist minister, was born in Hertfordshire, England in 1738. He joined the navy and was severely wounded. During his recovery, someone read to him a sermon by Dr. Isaac Watts, which led to his conversion. After his recovery, he entered the ministry. For the last 27 years of his life, he was the influential pastor of a large Baptist Church in Liverpool. He died in 1799. His hymns, 230 in number, were collected and published the following year under the title of Medley’s Hymns. A biographer wrote, “The charm of Medley’s Hymns consists less in their poetry than in the warmth and occasional pathos with which they give expression to the Christian experience.”

Key Verse: But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and that he will stand upon the earth at last. –Job 19:25
