HOWS YOUR PORTRAIT COMING ALONG?

Years ago Knotts Berry Farm had what was called the Chapel Of Reflections (not the current “Church of Reflections”). At this chapel a picture of Jesus would appear, then a voice began reading a physical description of Jesus, supposedly given by a contemporary named Publius Lentulus. This description was presented to the Roman Senate in the form of a letter.

Is this description authentic? Could be. Other than Isaiah’s brief prophetic glimpse of Messiah-Jesus (Isaiah 53), it’s obvious God didn’t feel it was critical to give us a detailed physical description of His Son or we’d have one in the Bible. Since God’s primary concern is with the heart of a person, the omission of a “pen-portrait” of Jesus is not surprising.

We do, however, know what Jesus looked like spiritually, emotionally and psychologically. What Jesus looked like in character is what every Christian should strive for.

We can learn what Jesus was like by reading the gospels. We can also discover His character by reading the New Testament letters, looking for the qualities of a godly man or woman. These qualities are the ones Jesus displayed!
