JOYFUL OBEDIENCE

“Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome.” I John 5:3

My dad and uncle owned an orange grove. When I was about 11 I started going with them to the grove every weekend. I worked pretty much the whole time. I started out in the nursery and as I got older was able to drive the ranch equipment. This went on up through my junior year in high school. After that, I would still go with Dad when I could.

As I think back to those years working for my dad and uncle I have few regrets. In fact, overall I really enjoyed working for them! Why would that be? I wasn’t paid for it; I missed a lot of weekend activities with my friends. I enjoyed it because I loved and appreciated my dad! I never felt like I had to do what I did. It felt like I was volunteering. This is how working for God and obeying God feels when we truly know and love Him.
