While the modern Pentecostal movement actually began with the Azusa Street Revival early in the twentieth century, its growth really exploded in the 1960s. Today Pentecostalism is the largest distinctive group among Protestants and Catholics. This is just as true in Christian communities around the world as it is in North America. Pentecostal churches are growing dramatically in Africa, Asia, Europe, and among the nations that comprised the former Soviet Union. Pentecostal church groups include the Church of God, Pentecostal Holiness churches, the Assemblies of God, and the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.
Impact: It is estimated that over half a billion people in over 100 nations are practicing Pentecostals.
