In 1906 in an abandoned Methodist church on Azusa Street in Los Angeles a Pentecostal revival broke out that would eventually sweep the nation and have far-reaching influence around the world. Interestingly, during this time when racism was an ugly fact of daily life, an African-American preacher named William J. Seymour sparked the revival. Lasting for three years it became an international sensation.
Impact: The Azusa Street revival led to one of the most powerful Christian movements in the twentieth century.
