ONLY SMALL BIRDS SING

I love to open the windows in the morning and hear the birds singing! It’s occurred to me that only smaller birds sing! Crows, vultures, turkeys — forget it! But the little ones sing beautifully! Here in the Pacific Northwest (i.e. Brookings, Oregon) we have the lark, junco, chickadee, finch, towhee, etc. I especially love to hear doves — so peaceful.

Here’s an interesting parallel to consider: Ever notice how the sweetest music, the biggest blessings come from those who are small in their own estimation?

For instance, whenever people tried to praise Hudson Taylor (first Christian missionary to the interior of China) for what he had accomplished, he would simply reply, “All God’s giants have been weak men who did great things for God because they reckoned on His being with them.”

In Australia, he was once introduced as “our illustrious guest” to which he replied, “Dear friends, I am the little servant of an illustrious Master.”
