DOGS AND MOTORCYCLES

The dog is man’s best friend — unless you happen to be riding a motorcycle! Then they can be your worst nightmare. How do you handle a dog that viciously attacks you on your bike — one that runs straight for you growling and snarling?

Instead of retreating and turning around, I‘ve learned to call his bluff! Providing I’m not going too fast, I’ll head right for him, honking, kicking, and growling right back — and he’ll almost always chicken out. The one time it didn’t work I ran over him!

My point is this: The next time you are tempted to retreat from a problem, a spiritual conflict, a “Goliath” of some kind, stand your ground! Don’t be intimidated! Still, yourself in God’s presence, realizing that one with Him is a majority! He is there and will save you and strengthen you — count on it! That’s the promise Isaiah provides in 30:18: “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him.”

Isaiah reassures us of God’s grace, compassion, and ability to make things right — in His time. Will we believe that and live life His way — or will we mount up and ride away the next time we’re threatened? The choice is ours. The invitation stands:

Come to the quiet; let the Lord rescue and strengthen you!
